My name is Brad Pickett and I am YOUR voice for the Kyle City Council.
Why I Ran.
In May 2006 I moved my family to Kyle because I wanted my children to have the benefits of a small town and the advantages of a growing community. My family and I have made a home here. We have friends here; we love the feel of Kyle and the people of Kyle.
The more I have researched and listened to the decisions being made by our past council, the more questions it leads me to. I have 20+ years in Finance and Business Management; I know I can make a difference. Your voice matters to me and I think the people of Kyle need to be more involved and aware of what their city government is doing. As your Kyle City Council representative one of the priorities I will have is to make communication to the people of Kyle clearer and easier to understand and access. It is important for me to have your input in city matters. I believe we can make a difference together.
Kyle's Growth.
We have made great strides in our growth, we have big business here in Kyle now and that will only attract more businesses, but not if the taxes they have to pay are too large and the profits are too small. Businesses will come but we have to take steps to get our tax rate stabilized, spending under control and our infrastructure rebuilt. I have a plan to make this happen. Once this happens then we will see more businesses and families wanting to make Kyle their home, then the cycle will continue to include higher property values, which earns more revenue which leads to more choices. Debt limits our prospects and restricts our choices. Let’s find that small town freedom we all moved here for - Together.
While the city was growing, some of our basic necessities were neglected. Of these our emergency services and police department have suffered the most. Falling in a close second are some of our roads. I believe we can fix these things by making responsible financial decisions for our city.
What WE Can Do About It.
As your Kyle City Council representative I have called for a review of our city charter. We need the voice of the people to be heard and a review completed. During this review we are collectively creating a Debt Limit that echoes the voice of the people instead of being told what you should want. My next step is to put into play, avenues of communication to hear your voices and keep you better informed of city decisions. For too long city staff have not been held accountable. We live in an age where technology offers no barriers to communication - I am opening up communications so we can hold city staff accountable for their performance.
Last but not least, I am engaged in an ongoing process to implement a more reasonable budget through zero-based budgeting, to stabilize Kyle’s economy through spending limits and developing capital to support the needs of our city. To bring us full circle to where our taxes are spent in our city and not used to pay debt plus interest on loans held in another state.
I know with the combined efforts of your new council members and myself, we all can get Kyle back on track and build a better, stronger future for our families.
